Bumble and Bumble Brown Hair Powder ($19 for 1oz; $35 for 4oz) is a dry shampoo for oily second day hair. What is unique about this product is it comes in four different shades for all hair colors: white, blonde, brown, and black. This product is ideally used for for oily hair, styling fine hair and root touch-ups on dry hair. To get the best results Hair Powder requires a slightly oily surface to adhere to, a light application of Styling Wax is recommended as a base if hair is clean.
White white, silver, platinum, ash and champagne blonde
Blondish darker blondes and lighter brunettes
Brown chocolate, mahogany and chestnut
Black inky brown, asian, hispanic, arfo and goth
To use hold the can 10-12 inches from dry hair; spray thoroughly, concentrating on oily areas; let dry; brush out thoroughly and style. Remember to to protect clothing, bath and bed linens during use (spots can be easily removed with a mild soap and water) since this product is a colored dry shampoo unlike traditional dry shampoos. If you stain your hand it will come off easily with soap and water. When I first used this I was very surprised at how the product came out. I knew it was a colored dry shampoo but the dark brown color just threw me off a little. It comes out like hairspray but just colored.
I sprayed this everywhere my hair was oily, mainly at the roots. The texture that your are left with is a dry rough texture that feels uncomfortable. The key step to this product is to make sure you brush out the excess product from your hair so you won’t be stuck with dry rough hair. I had neglected to do this part the first time and I felt uncomfortable with my hair throughout the day, brush out some of the product helps a lot. Any brush will be sufficient but a bristle brush would be best since it has many bristles to evenly distribute the product throughout the hair.
Another great use for this product is to give your hair volume by teasing the roots and it also makes it easier for you to do updos because it will keep hair clips in places and prevent them from slipping out. The color I got was brown and I think brown will work fine for most with dark colored hair. I feel that black will look too dark and unnatural on your hair unless you dyed your hair jet black. The color on the can is that exact color that comes out.
I was worried that the colored powder would transfer to my white pillowcases overnight while sleeping but to my surprise there was not a single stain. This hair powder dries very quickly but it will leave colored residue on your comb/brush when you brush out the product.
